ARAMIS 2D

Simple, fast optical DIC for in-plane deformation
ARAMIS 2D provides reliable, non-contact measurement of in-plane displacement and strain for flat specimens and controlled test set-ups. It is a cost-effective and efficient entry point into digital image correlation, particularly suited to materials testing and small specimen analysis is upgradeable to an ARAMIS Adjustable 3D DIC system.

Fast Set up

Single-camera configuration reduces preparation time and test complexity

Focused, in-plane measurement

Optimised for applications where deformation occurs predominantly within a defined plane.

Ideal for small specimens

Well suited to coupons, laboratory samples and localised deformation zones.

ZEISS Correlate

The ZEISS CORRELATE software offers the entire workflow from measurement data acquisition to analysis and reporting. It combines the synchronized image and analog data acquisition of the ARAMIS sensors with the evaluation functionality of the ZEISS INSPECT software.

What can you evaluate?

  • 2D coordinates
  • 2D displacements
  • 2D deformations
  • 2D speeds and accelerations
  • Material properties for the simulation (young's modulus, etc.)

What is ARAMIS 2D Camera?

ARAMIS 2D is an optical digital image correlation solution used to measure two-dimensional displacement and strain based on stochastic surface patterns. The deformation of the pattern directly represents the deformation of the specimen. From the measured image data, full-field strain and displacement results can be derived, enabling clear visualisation of material behaviour under load — without physical contact.

Typical Applications

ARAMIS 2D is particularly effective where deformation is predominantly planar and well-controlled:

  • Quasi-static tensile tests
  • Shear tests on flat specimens
  • Three-point bending tests (local analysis)
  • Failure and fracture zone inspection
  • Small-scale or high-speed material tests
  • Large structures where non-contact measurement simplifies instrumentation

In these scenarios, ARAMIS 2D delivers clear strain localisation, supports root-cause analysis, and reduces reliance on bonded strain gauges.

Technical specifications

  • Camera resolution: 4096 × 3000 pixels (12 MP)
  • Max frame rate (full resolution): 25 fps @ 4096 × 3000
  • Measurement volume (L × W): 20 × 15 mm to 5000 × 4000 mm

Higher-rate acquisition modes (ROI / binning)

  • 43 fps @ 2496 × 2096 (5M)
  • 75 fps @ 4096 × 1000 (1/3 image)
  • Up to 100 fps with binning (lower resolution)
  • 150 fps @ 4096 × 500 (1/6 image)

ARAMIS Controller

The perfect companion to link the sensor, software and testing machine or bench. Recording up to 8-external channels, triggering image acquisition, synchronizing channels, controlling the lighting, triggering external devices or time synchronization to the millisecond, the ARAMIS Controller compliments the ARAMIS 2D.

Light management for correlation quality

This is the very best in standardised LED lamps for DIC of this type. The LED Lamp B45-15, narrow-band blue LED Lamp ensures optimal lighting conditions due to it's polarisers, diffusors and very bright light. Available as a singular, double and standalone to meet the needs of your test set up.

Upgrade to 3D

With ARAMIS 2D, you're half way to a 3D DIC system. With a convenient upgrade route, you can start in 2D and migrate to 3D in an easy way to make your ARAMIS Adjustable 12M system.
