3D Testing with Digital Image Correlation (DIC)
We help engineering teams make confident decisions with accurate, non-contact, full-field 3D measurement. From understanding your objectives, to executing the test, and aligning the results so they meet your needs.Requirements Gathering
Every project begins with a structured discussion covering the test article, environment, load cases, data outputs and timelines. We align on resolution, sampling rates, test signals, lighting and anticipated test outcomes, as well as reporting formats and how results integrate downstream. This expectation-led approach mirrors how we scope measurement work across the business and will be documented in a project proposal document and quotation.SELECTING THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB
Not every scenario needs the same set up. We match the sensor, system, lenses and measuring volumes to your field of view and accuracy needs, and select frame rates to capture quasi-static through to high-speed events. When it helps, we combine DIC with our 3D metrology services (e.g., shape capture and inspection) to correlate geometry with deformation for deeper insight and understanding of test outcomes.PROJECT EXECUTION
We have a rigorous Quality Management System and scheduling tools aligned with AS9100 standards which governs how we manage the work with clear processes to follow at every point of the project.
Our highly skilled engineers will set up and carry out the test in line with the project proposal working in collaboration with your test team and test protocols throughout.
Analysis & Reporting
We deliver clear visualisations, tabular outputs and reports that support the test outcomes. Where requested, analysis can include correlation to your CAE / Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
In some examples and where required, we’ll bundle DIC outputs with dimensional inspection to create a combined view of shape and behaviour that accelerates decisions.
FLEXIBLE SERVICE DELIVERY
- One-off tests – rapid set-up, clear findings.
- Major projects – large programmes of work, with multiple touch points, large configuration, set up and integration.
- Long-term agreements – recurring tests, a regular asset check or business continuity need.
- Equipment-only – supply, where you need top-up equipment to meet demands in house peak resource loads.
- Low frequency → high-speed – frame rates, resolution and lens set ups scaled to your event.
Our Equipment
ARAMIS SRX delivers ultra-high-resolution full-field 3D deformation and 3D strain measurement for materials and structures. ZEISS CORRELATE powers processing, visualisation and analysis (displacement, strain, principal strain, thickness change, user-defined ROIs and more). As the UK & Ireland ZEISS Certified Metrology Partner, Delta XD provides end-to-end support.
Where appropriate, we deploy complementary optical systems to address scale, access and environmental constraints without compromising data quality.
WHAT DIC ENABLES
- Full-field deformation measurement and 3D displacement
- Accurate strain measurement for tensile, fatigue and fracture mechanics
- Structural testing in aerospace, automotive and civil applications
- Impact events with high-speed digital image correlation
- Real-time deformation monitoring and quality assurance
SHEET METAL FORMING ANALYSIS
Completing the service offering with ARGUS. Applying optical photogrammetry to evaluate forming conditions and surface strains on sheet metal components after forming. Results are compared against the forming limit curve to identify regions approaching flow limit, quantify thinning and formability, and validate simulations. It’s fast to deploy, works on components of almost any size, and shortens the loop between try-out and production.
Typical applications include tool try-out, simulation validation, ramp-up, material acceptance, and critical area diagnosis — helping teams solve complex forming problems with data, not guesswork.
