Senior Metrology Engineer

Delta XD is seeking an experienced Senior Metrology Engineer to take a lead role in delivering high-accuracy dimensional inspection and analysis across a wide range of critical industries. You will work hands-on with advanced metrology equipment and software, while also supporting the technical development of junior engineers within the team.

This role will suit someone with strong practical inspection experience who is comfortable working independently on customer sites, producing high-quality technical outputs, and contributing to the continued development of Delta XD’s metrology capability.

Delta XD is a precision engineering consultancy specialising in advanced measurement, inspection and test. We work across aerospace, defence, rail, energy, motorsport, and high-value manufacturing — delivering accurate, actionable data where it’s needed most.

Our services include 3D scanning, dimensional inspection, reverse engineering, measurement fixture design and manufacture, and production fixture development and verification. We provide fully mobile measurement services, as well as automated solutions using ZEISS ScanBox platforms.

Delta XD is also a ZEISS Certified Metrology Partner for the UK and Ireland, responsible for new system sales, training and aftercare support for the ZEISS optical 3D testing portfolio. This includes ARAMIS, TRITOP, PONTOS and ARGUS systems supporting static and dynamic material and component testing across industry and research sectors.

Based in Basingstoke and operating nationally and internationally, Delta XD combines deep technical expertise with rapid delivery—helping OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers maintain precision and confidence in their products and processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute detailed dimensional inspection and measurement tasks to a high technical standard.
• Work on-site at customer facilities across the UK, with occasional international travel.
• Produce clear, professional inspection reports including GD&T evaluation and CAD-based analysis.
• Operate and program ZEISS GOM, ATOS, ScanBox and PolyWorks systems.
• Support and mentor junior engineers, helping to develop skills and best practice.
• Assist with internal capability development, automation initiatives and process improvements.
• Maintain a strong customer-facing presence, representing Delta XD professionally on-site.

What You’ll Need

• A solid background in dimensional metrology or precision inspection.
• Hands-on experience with ZEISS, GOM or PolyWorks systems (or equivalent metrology platforms).
• Strong GD&T knowledge with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.
• Confidence working independently with customers and on-site measurement equipment.
• A clean UK driving licence.
• UK nationality (required for UK and US military security clearance).
• Based within commutable distance of the Delta XD office in Basingstoke, or willing to relocate.

Desirable

• Programming or scripting experience (e.g. Python) to support automation or data processing.
• Familiarity with automated measurement systems, including ZEISS ScanBox platforms.
• Experience working within aerospace, defence or other regulated manufacturing environments.
