About Delta XD

Delta XD is a precision engineering consultancy specialising in advanced measurement, inspection and test. We support aerospace, defence, rail, energy, motorsport, research and high-value manufacturing delivering high-accuracy data where it is needed most.

Our core services include 3D scanning, dimensional inspection, reverse engineering, fixture design, production verification and full-field optical testing. We provide both mobile services and automated solutions, including ZEISS ScanBox platforms.

We are also the ZEISS Certified Metrology Partner for the UK & Ireland for ARAMIS, TRITOP, PONTOS and ARGUS responsible for new system sales, training and aftercare support across industry, research, and academia. Delta XD is an active member of the EIS and BSSM, and is continually expanding its role within the UK 3D testing and experimental mechanics community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Delta XD’s lead specialist for Digital Image Correlation and full-field 3D testing.
  • Deliver on-site and in-house DIC measurement projects across industry and R&D sectors.
  • Support system sales with live demonstrations, test planning, proposal input and technical validation.
  • Provide first-class customer support, troubleshooting and consultancy for ZEISS ARAMIS and related systems.
  • Deliver basic, advanced and bespoke DIC training for new and experienced users.
  • Develop and document best-practice workflows for test setup, calibration, acquisition and post-processing.
  • Build Delta XD’s DIC service offering where system sales are not the right route for the customer.
  • Produce high-quality reports—strain/displacement mapping, validation studies, fatigue assessment, material characterisation, etc.
  • Represent Delta XD in the wider community through conference presentations, technical content, papers and online media.
  • Maintain a strong technical interface with ZEISS HQ and help influence product development through applied feedback.
  • Develop relationships with key customers to drive repeat business, case studies and wider DIC adoption.
  • Support Delta XD attendance at exhibitions, user conferences, workshops and future hosted events.

What You’ll Need

  • Proven hands-on experience with DIC systems (e.g. ZEISS ARAMIS).
  • Strong understanding of experimental mechanics, strain measurement and full-field deformation analysis.
  • Competence in camera setup, calibration, synchronisation, speckle preparation and data correlation workflow.
  • Experience in aerospace, structural or materials testing applications is strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable working independently on customer sites and managing complete test deliveries end-to-end.
  • Confident communicator—able to present, train, write reports and support commercial discussions.
  • Eligible to work in the UK, with a clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel (UK & occasional Europe).
  • Based within commutable distance of Basingstoke, or willing to relocate.

Desirable

  • Experience with other ZEISS optical systems (TRITOP, PONTOS, ARGUS).
  • Programming or scripting capability (e.g. Python, MATLAB) for workflow automation or data post-processing.
  • Experience in technical sales, applications support or consultancy.
  • Prior involvement with BSSM, EIS, aerospace OEMs or defence/structural test environments.
  • Familiarity with DAQ synchronisation, high-speed cameras, load frames or environmental chambers.

What We Offer

  • A lead technical role where you define the future of DIC at Delta XD.
  • Opportunities to become a recognised UK/EU authority in DIC and 3D testing.
  • Direct influence on business development, product strategy and capability growth.
  • ZEISS technical training and access to the latest optical metrology platforms.
  • A collaborative, ambitious team where your work has immediate visibility and impact.
  • The chance to build and mentor future specialists as the team expands.
